NSA Leak: Russian Hearts Warm To Snowden, Ecuador Fights U.S. Bullying

Snowden
Edward Snowden during an interview in Hong Kong. (Guardian / June 10, 2013)

From Denny:   Edward Snowden currently finds himself in the tender care of the Russians, supposedly America's worst enemy.  Yet these Russians are warming to him, impressed by his One Man Stand against the strongest world government which they have bitterly resented for decades.  While the Russians may also say they think Snowden's quest is probably a losing proposition they secretly hope he succeeds.

There is nothing better than witnessing when the seemingly impossible becomes possible.  Remember that One Man Stand of a Chinese student dissident standing in front of a tank during a protest and the tank came to a complete halt just inches in front of him?  That was impressive and cheered many human rights activists around the world.

Both of these acts speak to where there is one there is a majority of one.  You only have to stand and count for something, especially when it involves being of service to others.  A lot of snarky articles have been written about Snowden these past few weeks since this story broke.  Too many reporters have been working hard to tear down Snowden, accusing him of all kinds of motives.  Tell me; how many of these chicken hawk writers would have this courage like Snowden to be of service when it involves laying down your life not just for your country but for the world?

Is Snowden a saint?  No; of course not in the sense most people think of the definition as someone who is totally perfect and never makes a mistake or misjudgment.  Most saints would also tell you they are not saints.  But what is a saint but someone who chose the journey of courage in a long tough situation?  It's about the power of just one person who strikes a chord with the many and ends up creating one consensus...

Funny Daily Show on NSA Leaker: Idiot Media Chase Wheres Waldo Snowden

From Denny:  Comic John Oliver tells it like it is when he labels the U.S. government as turned into the "sad ex-boyfriend" when Hong Kong refused to return Obama reps' pleading calls about giving back NSA leaker Snowden.  America kept calling back like the ex-lover that leaves far too many annoying texts and phone messages, making a fool of themselves.

Next up? The unprofessional "journalists" in the media are the ones who have insisted upon promoting Snowden as the center of the NSA leak story like it's an episode of Where's Waldo? They should be focused upon how the NSA broke trust with Americans and the rest of the world.

Instead, the tabloid media chase Edward Snowden to Russia and board a plane Snowden was rumored to be on to travel to Cuba for refuge from the American government.  Of course, Snowden was a no-show on that flight.  What did the media do?  They took a 12-hour flight to nowhere without Snowden because they were locked inside the plane.  They took hundreds of photos of the empty airline seat and actually wrote reports like it was a news story and then tweeted the idiot photos.

Can it be that a comedian is a better journalist to report on the news than all the hordes of fools pretending to be journalists?  You decide.  I'll take a comic as my journalist peer sidekick any day compared to way too many of the sad excuses that call themselves journalists in mainstream media.  Even I never thought journalism would deteriorate to this low a level.  But hey, enjoy John Oliver's take on fools making fools of themselves - and in public! ...

Russia: Putin Flies Finger Eagle to Obama About Snowden

Edward Snowden, painted portrait IMG_8815
Edward Snowden, painted portrait IMG_8815 (Photo credit: Abode of Chaos)
From Denny:  After the cold shoulder at the G-8 Summit from just about everyone, Putin finally gets his delicious revenge.  Come on; Putin is an old Cold War KGB guy who is hanging from the chandeliers and dancing in the streets now that this coveted prize that Obama so desperately wants yesterday is in his possession.

In fact, it was President Obama who drove Edward Snowden straight into Russia's "loving" arms.  This NSA story has morphed into a perverse love story of two battling dictators in love with the mouse who possesses the laptop and thumb drive cheese running away from one into the den of the other.

After denying it yesterday, today, President Putin finally admitted he did know where Edward Snowden was located.  Putin admitted he has Snowden in the airport "transition area."  Putin also thumbed his nose at Obama with the equivalent of a huge Russian finger eagle flying high and prominent when he basically said, "F you and the horse you rode in on, Obama.  You can't have Russia's new love, Snowden." ...

NSA Leak Funny: White House, Justice Dept Are Dumb and Dumber Mishandling Case

Snowden
Edward Snowden, Hong Kong, June 2013/Guardian

Update: Turns out the lame Justice Department could not get Snowden's middle name correct in the extradition documents - not James but Joseph is correct.

From Denny:  This NSA Leak case is one real life raucous comedy.  A comic could not ask for better material so readily available in the news, especially of how inept the entire United States government and Justice Department look to the world.

What President Obama has accomplished is to unite the entire world against the United States in their fury of getting spied upon and so thoroughly publicly embarrassed.  Nice going, guys.

All you had to do was refuse to prosecute Snowden and then proceed to bring him in from the cold early in this drama, placing him elsewhere inside the government in a position better suited to his abilities where he really could protect the public's interests.  Instead, President Obama chooses the heavy-handed approach that demanded Snowden remain out of grasp for his own physical safety.

This wrong unwise White House-Pentagon strategy played into the hands of America's enemies so they could gleefully join in on the play just to thwart Obama's plans.  Definitely, President Obama is a lousy international chess player.  Does this President ever bother to think several moves ahead of his harsh decisions?...

Colbert, Daily Show Videos: Naughty Government, Funny NSA Leaker Jokes

Stephen Colbert as the fictional Stephen Colbert
Stephen Colbert as the fictional Stephen Colbert (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

4 funny Stephen Colbert video clips. 2 Daily Show clips.

From Denny:  When NSA Leaker Edward Snowden poked the hornets' nest of the intelligence community (IC), the military, private contractors, the government and the Justice Department they geared up into a defensive posture like never before this week.

Their collective backlash was the usual heavy-handedness of the 800 pound gorilla, heaped upon one individual they figure is an easy win, which only made the government look worse to the casual observer, especially the enthusiastic voting demographic under the age of 30.

Clearly, the government agencies are laying out the case to the court of public opinion, hoping to turn the public against Snowden so they have an excuse to either give him the death penalty or send out another wave of assassins. It's a shameful attitude and excessive behavior.

The smart thing would have been to STFU, issue a few press statements in defense of the phone sweeping and then wait for it to blow over or get replaced by yet another news story.  But no, the nasty Justice Department and the military guys running the various intelligence agencies just couldn't leave their testosterone in the bottle.  They just had to pounce and gang up on Snowden.  So now they are creating a social martyr.  It's the usual oxymoronic display of "military intelligence."

Why such an over reaction?  What are they really hiding?  Does Snowden really know and plan to reveal something far more intimidating than what we already suspected and knew to be true about our government?  If it's true that Snowden made off with at least one million documents after only employed for a mere three months how can the government and its private contractors make the case they had in place strict difficult to break protocols to prevent what Snowden did so easily?  Are they asleep at the switch or just plain lazy?

Get this; Snowden was quickly given access to the FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court) warrant order and more related materials posted on a web server during the NSA orientation on his first day. The Chinese, the Russians and the Israelis must be laughing in their sleeves about now at the silly levels of security of which the American government places so much confidence and hope.

Special public hearings to prove the various government communities have done nothing wrong and how they have safeguarded everyone's privacy is what they are selling today. The problem with the hard sell is that it becomes increasingly obvious that something odious is on the other side of the door and the sales folks are hoping to distract us all away from it.

After all, too many of the vociferous Snowden critics and those in the military, the IC, the government's politicians own stock in those private contractors making billions of dollars from those NSA contracts and other defense industry projects.  It's more about defending their wallets than it is about justice or America's safety from terrorists.  America: Home of the Bought and Sold Government.  It's no wonder a small level guy like Snowden went public with as much as he could gather up to publish.

While most Americans understand and accept the need for surveillance, we also expect it to be reasonable.  We expect that snooping to have a targeted specific person in their sights not a regular rolling over 90-day search warrant rubber stamped by the secret FISA court.  It's annoying when the government officials keep parsing their words to be legally correct but ethically and morally deceptive.

Are you guys tired of selling your souls a little at a time every day?  Just take a look at how haggard some of Team Obama look and it's obvious they are allowing themselves to be bullied by the IC and the military generals into making decisions they know they should not.  There has been enough killing and it is a practice to which our government should not get addicted.  Get your compasses back to wisdom.  Quit trying to balance the egos in government agencies and stay straight on smart.

We the People (Photo credit: vkx462)

Dennys World of Quotes: Funny Quotes About Government: From Denny:  First God gave humanity Free Will.  Then God gave humanity the right for self-government. Then the entertainment began! God also created comedians to exercise their creative free will to criticize inept government. God saw that Life was good so God sat back, relaxed and watched the show.

Now that I'm finished pontificating I thought you might enjoy some insightful quotes from deep thinkers throughout history, demonstrating their visions and opinions, chuckling about humanity's efforts toward creating government.

Warriors Pearl Foundation: New Denny Lyon Design: Phone Cases, Handbags, T-Shirts, More: Fun Magic Coffee Fonts: From Denny:  Since I'm past due on posting about all my new designs the past year for Denny Lyon Gifts to benefit charities helping homeless female military veterans who were victims of sexual assaults I might as well get started today.

This was a fun design to create after drinking too much coffee one morning. :) We do so enjoy that awesome aroma every morning wafting out of the kitchen to rocket us out of bed to begin our day.  So, I just had to place it on an unexpected product choice:  handbags and wallets!

To "gild the lily" there were two more coordinating patterns if you want to experience some creative fun to mix and match.  The nautical theme is popular in fashion now as the 60's retro is back on the scene.  Of course, with my usual, sometimes off kilter art mind, I thought how cool is it to think of "navigating" our way to the welcoming waters of our morning coffee as a major achievement?...

NSA Leaker Snowden: Time To Bring Him Home Safely Without Delay

snowden_nyc10june_DSC_0019
snowden_nyc10june_DSC_0019 (Photo credit: Michael Fleshman)

From Denny:  Well, for the moment the assassins were called off taking out Snowden and they sure were surprised as that was a new one to them.  War dogs don't enjoy being told to heel, especially when one group had Snowden in their cross hairs.  Snowden has some fierce warrior angels looking out for him these days.  He had better appreciate them because they are protecting him on their own time.

Adding to the international drama stupidity, the typical idiot response from China is talking openly about kidnapping Snowden to torture him for details.  Let me share a thought with China.  Kidnapping Snowden is NOT in China's best interest.

Quite the contrary because America would go to war on several levels over this situation.  In addition to what the President would do the average American would be so angry they would boycott all Chinese products.  Harming the Chinese economy would be more damaging than the gain of any silly information China thinks they can mine from the inexperienced Snowden.  China - and any other country contemplating going after Snowden - would do well to sit back and not try to take advantage.  This area is where they should never go as it will set off a whole other set of dangerous dominoes they will not find pleasant.

President Obama and the intelligence-military-Big-Business-political complex is in a real dilemma, a dilemma in which they placed themselves.  They want to focus their fury upon Snowden when it is unwise people in our government who have refused to create close oversight and do their due diligence to rein in excesses and abuses by these 500,000 private contractors installed during the War on Terror years.

Sooner or later a scenario like this was bound to happen.  Come on; just how lazy is the intelligence community (IC) anyway?  Why on earth do you have 70 percent of your work farmed out to billion dollar private corporations?  Tell me again why the American taxpayer is paying you? If these guys are doing most of the work then maybe you are now irrelevant.

How do you ever hope to oversee private contractors effectively, efficiently or on a timely basis?  Do you even run regular checks to make sure they are not reselling information you just blindly hand over to them?  Of course, China targets these private contractors with cyberattacks.  Hey, I've got a great idea.  Let's just farm out our "intelligence" work to the Chinese, the Russians and the Israelis and let them send us back the answers.  Maybe they will do it cheaper too.

To President Obama, FBI, CIA, NSA: Do NOT Kill NSA Leaker Snowden Once Found

The seal of the U.S. National Security Agency....
The seal of the U.S. National Security Agency. The first use was in September 1966, replacing an older seal which was used briefly. For more information, see here and here. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

From Denny:  With all the anger darting furiously all over the place from government officials concerning the NSA leaks about virtually indiscriminate secret phone sweeping upon millions, most especially furious national politicians, it's time for everyone to slow down and calm down.

It's of no help for Senators to be seen screaming threats and pronouncements on the news, especially when it is the Senate that is supposed to be the slow deliberate body constitutionally.  It sure doesn't help for DNI Clapper to be seen with such a huge tell he is lying as much as he is frustrated.  The good news is that our national intelligence director is a lousy liar.  It's time for everyone to take a deep breath, sit down and recover their cool.  None of us have the whole story yet.

More leaks are coming out and you will just have to weather the storm.  As the news is revealed then just answer as best you can in a timely fashion. Do not delay your answers and play the stupid role of cover-up.

As the FBI tracks down Edward Snowden to question him and determine just how much he really knows and has timed to release, be mindful of using wisdom in this entire matter.  If President Obama, the CIA, or the NSA have sent out assassins to kill him, then call it off now.  If any of you have thought about killing him, then think again as it would only create a bigger mess.  I see absolutely nothing has changed since the years I grew up in the CIA and I am so ready to bitch slap the first person who thinks they can step over this line and kill or harm Snowden.

Military Sexual Assaults: Finally Time For Entire Pentagon Chiefs to Resign?

FILE – In this May 17, 2013 file photo Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Martin Dempsey, speaks during a Pentagon news conference about sexual assaults in the military, among other topics. Dempsey and the four-star chiefs of the services are scheduled to testify Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at a high-stakes Senate hearing on congressional proposals to modify the military justice system to stem the flow of the escalating number of sexual assaults that have outraged Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill. (AP Photo/Carolyn Kaster, File)
Gen. Dempsey, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff

From Denny:  After a damning report that revealed 26,000 sexual assaults just in 2012 alone, you would think someone over at the Pentagon would resign in shame.

After 3400 plus officially reported cases that actually went up the chain of command from a few brave commanders not willing to cover it up, there were only 190 of those 3400 plus sexual assaults and rapes that went to court.  No one resigned in shame for this pathetic record.

Then a military jury found a man guilty of sexual assault and a general overturned their jury verdict because he didn't like their decision.  After all, the jury was handpicked to give that general the not guilty outcome he desired and they dared to defy him.  He didn't resign in shame because legally a superior officer can overturn a conviction.

Many senators in Congress are poised to take that legal right out of the military's hands.  It should have been done 30 years ago when women were entering the military and military academies, suffering sexual assaults and gang rape at alarming rates.  Most cases that were reported to commanders never went up the chain of command.  The military cover-up culture was in full tilt mode then as much as today.

Poems From A Spiritual Heart: Legacy of Love

Cosmic consciousness by h.koppdelaney @ flickr

Poems From A Spiritual Heart: Legacy of Love: From Denny:   ... Mentoring others is important no matter what stage you are living in your life. You can be young or old. You can teach the young, those older, those your same age. Teach what you know and share your life experiences. You never know who you will inspire. And, as you teach, you learn from them too. Never feel what you know is not important enough to share. Never be too proud to receive knowledge from others eager to share what they have just learned or figured out. For today's shared knowledge just might answer tomorrow's problems - for them and for you. Mentoring: it's a fair exchange, don't you think? :)

Heckled First Lady Michelle Obama: Accused As Angry Black Woman? Come On; Really?

From Denny:  Now First Lady Michelle Obama is accused of being the archetypal "angry black woman" for daring to stare down and get in the face of an inept protester who just thought the First Lady would tolerate her rudeness. Where do people get these ideas about how this was a racist heckling incident with white entitlement overtones?

Well, never to be a shrinking violet from controversy on my blog, let's start with the "angry black woman" stereotype.  Guess what; historically there's good reason for it as black women have taken a boat load of garbage from society for generations.  That fight for survival attitude would be ingrained by now culturally or none of their mothers would have lived to give birth to the generations to follow.  After more than 40 years of civil rights legislation, slowly climbing up the social ladders, admittance into the best universities and procuring high level jobs, the "angry black woman" stereotype is no longer as necessary.  Yet, the resentments still linger - on both sides of racism.

But here's the rub about this nasty exchange of a lesbian gay rights activist heckling the First Lady who is black: it's really about American female culture and a lot less about black intolerance of white entitlement issues.

Late Night Jokes, Funny Videos About Obama Scandals: IRS, Benghazi, AP

Tea Party protester
From Denny:  Come on; you knew this was coming.  The jokes are too good and the funny photos of Tea Party protesters who just can't spell their own language in sign after sign is shocking.  OK, unbelievable.  America needs to increase our public school education and reteach these folks their own language: English.

It's no wonder the IRS sought to investigate the Tea Party groups who were demanding tax exempt status.  Their paperwork was probably so filled with spelling errors they weren't sure what was going on.  If these Tea Party signs are any indication of the lack of intellectual caliber of these political groups the IRS tried to check out, it isn't any surprise as to why they felt compelled to do so.

Another post:  What Is Prez Obama Getting Right Lately? Enjoying the IRS Non-Scandal?

Of course, Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart just had to weigh in on all these scandals.  Politics and scandal are a comedian's twin joke bags that are filled to overflowing like it's Christmas all year long.  Stewart was especially funny when he joked in this clip about turning the tables on the IRS now that they are in the spotlight, "Yeah, it's not so fun when you get audited, now is it?!"

What Is Prez Obama Getting Right Lately? Enjoying the IRS Non-Scandal?

People filing tax forms in 1920

From Denny:  While the Republicans work zealously to manufacture non-scandals to grab media attention just what is the President really doing to correct government problems and on-going issues?

IRS Non-Scandal

My fellow media got all in a lather about the IRS "Scandal" because they really had nothing better to fuss about to try and drive advertising revenue.  Come on; we all love to hate the tax man.  That much the media knew would strike a chord with this story.  Even the Bible documents an historical hatred of government taxation.  None of us enjoy it.
