Economy, Afghan War, America, World Politics Cartoons - 21 Aug 2010

*** This week's political opinion delivered through the national cartoonists.

From Denny: Collecting these cartoons every week really demonstrates the national mindset on an issue. I post the pros and the cons from the cartoonists - unless the opinion expressed is an obvious lie of propaganda manipulation or just plain hate. An honest opinion is acceptable even if a negative one.

In the end, opinion is contingent upon all the facts getting delivered. Much of what passes for opinion in America is actually manufactured by political strategists working overtime to confuse Americans away from solving the problems in this great country. For, if Americans quit fighting each other - like over this wedge issue of the mosque building near not on Ground Zero in New York City - we would clearly see who is manipulating us against ourselves and what they have to gain by doing so.

So, people like me plod on trying to get the weak minds in this country to stop screaming long enough to see how they are being manipulated against their own best interests. I'll let you know when - if ever - we get a "break through" in the uphill process. :)

As to the Iraq War supposedly is over, well, it sure does not look like it. Just because 50,000 or so combat troops were pulled out and sent over to Afghanistan doesn't look like mission accomplished. It is simply not convincing when generals go before the media cameras to announce how they will be ready to rush back into Iraq if the Iraqis botch their own security.

Either we are in or we are out, make a decision, Mr. President and stick to one side of the decision line. It's this kind of continual "hedging your bets" that Democrats do in public that hurts our party with the American people, making us easy targets for the Republican strategists to strike a bulls eye.

This ambivalence is unacceptable. It's this constant wavering and uncertainty that has all of America so uncomfortable in the first place: the economy, jobs, excessively high unemployment to the tune of 20 percent in some large cities and now this war that is only "half over." The only way for leaders to calm a large country in chaotic times is to be definite, be certain and act decisively.

Gen. McChrystal Out For Crudely Dissing The President

*** Gen. McChrystal expected to resign for major faux pas against the President.

Photo by Pete Souza, The White House file

From Denny: Well, the hot dogs at the Pentagon have done it again. Ever since President Obama took office they have been playing games to find out how much pressure they can exert with Obama since they want the wars to continue into infinity. Today they lost the bet. President Obama is non-stop furious about McChrystal's idiot crude remarks.

Are you ready for this? It was a civilian member of the general's public relations team, Duncan Boothby, who set up the McChrystal interview with Rolling Stone Magazine in the first place. All that says to me is that the entire Pentagon culture is corrupt. It's time for Obama to clean house from the top down, starting with the entire room of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for tolerating this garbage. They are supposed to be the leaders. In reality they are guilty of treason during a time of war for disrespecting the President and disobeying his policies.

Realist Politicians Vs. Crazies Editorial Cartoons 12 Dec 2009

From Denny: Looks like this week most cartoonists panned Prez Obama's Peace Prize award as deserving. There are an assortment of opinions on that subject represented here; I panned on the nasty ones that were just Republican red meat for the crazied supporters. My favorite one is the telemarketer cartoon where even Obama doesn't believe the caller.

The public continues to grow weary of war in Iraq and Afghanistan, rolling our eyes and wondering if it's worth it any more. This war is shaping up too much like the Cold War where everyone is paranoid and excessively aggressive, basically accomplishing just about nothing of significance, short of too much screaming, yelling and political assassinations of whomever is the terrorist-anarchist-evildoer Flavor of the Month.

It took a bad economy of supporting too many satellite countries' economies that finally took down the old U.S.S.R. Of course, the Republicans have re-written many American history books with the help of disgraced former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, to convince everyone that actually it was President Reagan who ordered the Russians to "tear down this wall" and so they immediately complied. There are actually people gullible enough to believe such simplistic arrogance...

The last two holiday cartoons say it all during the holiday season: how important it is to work toward world Peace, responding smartly to global warming and get some real health care reform no matter how many annoying Republicans we have to step over to get to the goal. :)

Cartoons, News, Food, Catch Up on Posts 6 Dec 2009

From Denny: This week at least I loaded the stories I wanted to post about, then finally got the time this weekend to finish writing and post them!

Dennys Global Politics:
Assassins Security Recipe For Disaster: Obama State Dinner - Then the worst scenario of all: A well-trained or motivated assassin could have cleaned house on the top tier of our government - President, Vice President, Speaker of the House and Chief of Staff. That would have left us with Senator Pro-tem, Senator Byrd from West Virginia to run the country, an aging 90 years plus man in poor health.

Obamas Unwelcome Afghan Strategy, Reactions and a Lame Congress - Republicans complained about Obama not wanting to continue the war indefinitely while Democrats worry about the cost of a protracted war, circulating the lame idea of a war tax to fund the recent surge on an already burdened depressed economy.

Prez Obama Lays Out Bleak New Afghanistan Strategy - "And Karzai is a sorry excuse for what passes for good government. What started out with great promise years ago has become a farce. He now looks like a bejeweled weasel sitting on a pile of gold: American foreign aid money."
