Jockeying For Power: Tea Party Says Replace Boehner Over 2011 Budget Deal

From Denny:  The snake pit fought ferociously today delivering an intense political high stakes drama. Never mind there are 25 million people out of work and in dire need of jobs in America. Apparently, that is not a drama they find interesting enough to tackle when they can be jockeying for personal political power and recognition.

Congress and the White House were all about playing the game of "Screw You!" as much as possible, creating serious bad blood in each party. The snakes are fighting the snakes in their own parties: Republicans vs. Republicans and Democrats vs. Democrats.

Republican Snakes

Right now, the Republicans, via the Tea Party puppeteers, are jockeying to remove Boehner as Speaker and insert Eric Cantor in his place. "Didn't I tell ya?" that Cantor was up to no good? Read this: Government Shutdown and Cartoons: Courtesy of Tea Party and GOP

Democrat Snakes

House Minority Whip, Steny Hoyer, is trying to topple Nancy Pelosi. Yeah? Nancy has the majority of the Democratic caucus with her.  Unfortunately, Hoyer's 81 Dems were Centrists and helped the GOP make today's deal.

Here's what happened today in the vote

Remember last week when President Obama announced he had a deal with the GOP to avoid the government shutdown? As usual, the Obama Speak was Details to Follow After A While. So, today those details were voted upon by the House.  All the public heard was a bunch of confusing garble as to those details.

Obama, Senator Reid, Speaker Boehner and Rep. Hoyer, Pelosi's second in command, all made a deal. They shut out Nancy Pelosi, even though she is House Minority Speaker, not Hoyer.  Obama should be ashamed of himself.  It was Pelosi that helped him ascend in the first place by promoting him in the party.

Obama shut out female Speaker Pelosi from budget deal negotiations

So, now he shuts out "the little woman" as too stupid to participate in the Big Boys Club.  He just throws his Mama from the train.  Got news for this ungrateful arrogant White House: As the saying goes, "When Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."  Women voters do not like what they see coming out of this White House.  This was a huge error in judgment and political maneuvering.  Stay tuned for a terrible 2012 reelection where your base deserts you, Mr. President.

Good luck on getting the Independents to vote for you.  You will need it no matter how bad the GOP competition.  But then, I know good things are on the horizon right before the election that will turn the Republicans and the Democrats on their disobedient arrogant ears.  Stay tuned for what and who the voters will really choose at the pivotal moment since neither party has taken the plight of every day Americans to heart.

Today, House Minority Speaker Nancy Pelosi and 108 House Democrats voted against the Obama-Boehner budget deal. All Hoyer could deliver were 81 Democrats. The girl can play hard ball to a gang of fools even if the fools did help put the odious deal to a winning vote.  The House vote tally was 260-167, passing the budget deal.  Hours later the Senate voted to pass it with the vote of 81 - 19, sending the bill to Obama for his signature.  Without this bill passage, the government would have run out of funds tomorrow night.

Speaker Pelosi: " My caucus was not a part of the agreement and thus have no ownership of that or any responsibility to it — except that we don't want to shut down the government."

The budget deal contains a lot of ugly spending cuts primarily aimed at low-income people, women's health care and seniors to the tune of  $39.9 billion. It will fund the federal government through September 2011.

Tea Party and Conservatives Furious

Both the Tea Party and the conservative hard right wing of the GOP all want Boehner's head on a pike. They are currently busy blasting away at him on their blogs, demanding a real conservative excoriate Obama.  If Boehner won't do the deed then they will find someone with the courage to do it.  Do these guys ever talk about politics in anything less melodramatic than "the nuclear option"?

Speaking of rich people.  The IRS is still owed $330 billion dollars in unpaid taxes from primarily the wealthy in this country who just refuse to pay their fair share.  This budget deal cut funding to the IRS to collect those taxes.  How stupid is that move?

Check out Cenk Uygar about just what is in that budget cuts deal:

Funny Video: Stephen Colbert Prepares Us 4 Life Without Glenn Beck

The Image via Wikipedia

From Denny:  This is pretty funny stuff as Stephen shows the Beck clips of "end of the world backpacks" every household should stash. It's got at least two weeks worth of freeze dried food that tastes yummy, according to Beck. Then Colbert goes on to lampoon the remaining stragglers of advertisers still willing to show their face, uh, their products on the Glenn Beck show.

Oh, here let me help them. These are the advertisers who dropped Beck and ran for their corporate lives:

Funny Late Nite Jokes Roundup: Government Shutdown

The "Eagle's Nest", with its many re...Image via Wikipedia

From Denny: For the moment the government shutdown was averted - until the next time. The coming battle for political supremacy will be fighting over raising the debt ceiling. Without it, the country is basically screwed for mortgage loans, small business loans: life.

With it, we are still facing mounting debt, courtesy of the George Bush Tax Cuts - which Obama gave yet again without a quality negotiation.  Then there are the two Bush wars in Iraq and Afghanistan which Obama has seen fit to continue for the benefit of the same war profiteers.

Aren't we lucky that in today's news Pakistan announced it  is finally getting tired of America and demanding we leave? The Long Goodbye always starts with rumors on facebook, rumors at The New York Times, followed by the CIA getting kicked out on their intelligence-gathering ears.

Eventually, the troops leave. Did I mention we have tens of thousands of soldiers chasing less than 140 Taliban up in the Pakistani remote areas? Yes, those same areas destroyed by flooding.

At some point the voters have to wake up in this country and start running all the political strategists out of town. Why? They have us chasing our tails and spending billions of dollars doing it, looking totally stupid. The sad thing is too many soldiers are dying or getting severely wounded for stupid. And war profiteering.

Meanwhile, the government shutdown, oops, budget talks, soap opera gives the public an annual installment of high drama lying and bizarre gamesmanship, primarily from the Republicans. The folks with common sense and practical solutions rarely get heard as the mainstream media chokes them out in favor for the screamer voice weeds like Glenn Beck.

The only time you get to hear from normal legislators is during the afternoon news, in the middle of the day and on places like CNN, sometimes MSNBC. But watch fast because the video clips won't be there to watch later and that news will not be featured on the evening news.

The best way to get the obscure news - other than reading obscure liberal blogs like this one?  Turn to the late night comics and the political cartoonists.  They have no shortage of opinion or political news awareness.  Take a look and grin your way through the work week.

From Jay Leno:

We're heading for a government shutdown. This is serious. Without the government who will fail to inspect our airplanes? Who will fail to secure our borders? Who will put us 14 trillion dollars in debt?

Members of Congress will still get paid if there's a shutdown. So it will be just like it is now. We'll be paying them to do nothing.

The most embarrassing part is that by the weekend, our government could be shut down, but Moammar Gadhafi's government could still be working.

It looks like we're heading for a government shutdown. And you thought Joe Biden had nothing to do before.

If the government shutdown occurs, there may be a freeze to all new wars in the Middle East.

President Obama's approval ratings are so low now, Kenyans are accusing him of being born in the United States.

A lot of people wonder what a government shutdown would be like. I think a lot more people wonder what a government running properly would be like.

Lisa Benson

From Stephen Colbert:

We are just four days away from the government shutdown, which will cripple the VA, Social Security and Medicare. So I get to snuff out one more candle on my Government Shutdown Menorah. Shutdownica celebrates the miracle of telling veterans and the elderly that they can suck it.

Make sure you cover the ears of the little kiddies when this video clip plays. :) Here, Colbert lets loose with his unvarnished opinion of Tea Party GOP leader Mike Pence:

Countdown to Government Shutdown

Stephen prepares for the shutdown with a champagne flute of lead paint and gets up early to listen to the government closings all around the world. Colbert cleverly sets the stage, complete with listening to a 1930's radio in his bedroom and his bed draped with the American flag. (03:36)

From Bill Maher:

They finally maybe struck a deal to avert a government shutdown. Of course, all on the Republican terms. You can always tell when Obama's negotiations with the Republicans are winding down, because he's missing his watch and his lunch money.

Moderately Confused

Clay Bennett

From David Letterman:

David Letterman's "Top Ten President Obama Campaign Promises For 2012"

10. Be more of a warlock, less of a troll
9. Keep unemployment below 75 percent
8. Fight three wars and the fourth one is free
7. Replace space shuttle with this (video of Don Rickles firing a rocket)
6. Get fat like the rest of America
5. Send troops to quell feud between Meat Loaf and Gary Busey
4. Fortune cookies actually tell fortunes, no more of this lucky numbers crap
3. Less talk, more rock
2. Pardon Lindsay Lohan
1. Go back to being that cool, smoking bad ass we all fell in love with

Dana Summers

Henry Payne

From Jimmy Fallon:

The White House may have to lay off all nonessential workers if the government shuts down. You know: interns, pages, Biden...

From Conan O'Brien:

Due to the budget impasse, the federal government may shut down next week. There will be another season of 'Jersey Shore,' but the U.S. government is still up in the air.

If the government shuts down, 800,000 federal workers could get a call saying they're 'non-essential.' Wouldn't it be weird if 800,000 people got the same call that I get from my dad every day?

If there's a shutdown, federal meat inspections may be delayed. In other words, Taco Bell will not be affected

.

Robert Ariail

Ed Stein

Dan Wasserman

From Jimmy Kimmel:

If Congress can't agree on a budget by midnight Friday, the government will shut down. Democrats are demanding to tax all of the people's money and use it to fund abortions, while the Republicans want to sell the country to Exxon Mobil and relocate gays to Puerto Rico.

All government services may be shut down next week, which could really make the DMV inconvenient.

A lot of public beaches may also be shut down, which could severely whiten John Boehner.

Democrats and Republicans in Congress are still fighting over the budget. If they can't agree, there will be a big government shutdown. What we really need is a big government shut-up.

If the government shuts down, all non-essential workers will stop coming to work. Here's my question: Why do we even have non-essential workers?

Funny Videos: Jon Stewart Mocks Glenn Beck FOX News Departure

Glenn Beck by Gage SkidmoreGlenn Beck - Image via Wikipedia

From Denny: Did any of us think the long rambling weird reign of foul-mouthed Glenn Beck would ever stop? Well, even FOX News has had enough and told him last week his show was canceled. He will depart the end of the year when his contract ends. Well, it never was real news, just imagined news.

For months comics have lampooned Beck's messianic Hitler style attitude and declarations. Well, even Beck's fans began to evaporate. Turns out in January his fan base began dwindling. Originally, at the height of his nightly viewership was clocked at about three million.

A show on a network has to top well over seven million to stay on the air. Well, by January, Beck's viewership was down by one million. It was amazing that two million people tuned into to listen to his strange - and often violent - ramblings. It does make you wonder if Beck helped destabilize millions of other people, causing them to tip over the edge to insanity.

It was incredible the top notch advertisers on this show - big names like GE, BMW, various Big Banks, you name them. So why did Beck suddenly lose 30 percent of his advertisers in one quick sweep? Why did Beck lose 30 percent of his viewership in just one month? Why is Beck continuing to bleed viewers and advertisers at the rate of about 5 percent erosion a month?

Government Shutdown and Cartoons: Courtesy of Tea Party and GOP

Boehner And CantorGOP Cantor, left, GOP Speaker Boehner, right - Image by TalkMediaNews via Flickr

From Denny: This budget mess is a dark farce, courtesy of the Republicans and their inbred political cousins, the Tea Party. The GOP hates women and they hate giving federal funding for women's health care.

Millions of women depend upon that funding in Title 10 which provides reproductive and preventative care. Since it is mainly low-income women who are the beneficiary of these funds, Republicans don't care. After all, low-income people are not their voting demographic. Nor have they ever done anything for women either.

The whole process is disingenuous. To get the $100 billion the Tea Party demands, it's obvious: all you have to do is stop these idiot wars in Afghanistan and Iraq where we spend billions per month. And now our heavy involvement in Libya is equally expensive - to the tune of $1 million per Tomahawk missile fired to enforce the No-Fly Zone.

Want more easy cuts? Try the $1 billion "tax cuts" for the wealthy that President Obama gave away far too easily, especially when 70 percent of the entire country said they did not want the rich to get tax cuts. He foolishly did it anyway. And now, here we are months later, with all of Congress and the President looking stupid in this budget fight.

It's been a head-scratching wonder how long it would take for the Democrats to finally quit playing doormat and say no to the GOP bullying. Every time there is an agreement, the GOP back up on their word and greedily demand more. Politicians throwing temper tantrums is getting old.
