Good Move, Mr. Prez: Safeguarding The Gulf on Oil Production

Today the President took new measures to watch dog the oil and gas industry, increasing the safety of our environment.

New order issued to oil and gas industry to clean up the Gulf

From Denny: Today the President informed the oil and gas companies it was time to get their proverbial act together. They have been ordered to plug those non-producing wells to the tune of about 3,500. The administration also told the energy companies to immediately dismantle almost 650 production platforms that are not in use in the Gulf of Mexico.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said, "This should make energy production in the Gulf safer and prevent potentially catastrophic leaks at wells that, in some cases, have been abandoned for decades." (*** See: 27, 000 Aging Abandoned Leaking Oil Wells in Gulf of Mexico)

Apparently, administration officials like Michael Bromwich, Director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, are claiming "This initiative was under consideration long before the Deepwater Horizon explosion."

White House tone deaf to the Gulf residents and Dems political survival

From Denny: Apparently, I'm not the only one who sees politics as the driving force behind the Gulf oil spill pie charts. The political guys at the White House - yet again - have made a really bad call, both on timing and substance. When tone deaf news reports like this barf out of the White House it always has Axelrod's fingerprints on it. What does the President see in this guy?

Oil spill report is bad science and just political posturing

On to the oil spill report trumpeting how there is hardly any oil left in the Gulf. This report is based on speculation "modeling and extrapolation and very generous assumptions" and that cannot be tested. People that ain't science; it's politics. How insensitive can this White House be to the Gulf residents?

From Denny: Considering the possible magnitude of this environmental disaster for years to come, BP has not been forth-coming on a lot of truths. Just this week NBC reported how they are only trying to clean up 1% of the spilled oil. BP has been flooded with calls to help with the clean up yet refuse to take the calls.

Sure looks like their strategy is if they sign any contracts for clean up they will be required to pay upon completion. They are trying to foot drag their out of pocket immediate expenses and tie up the American government in court for decades to avoid their fiscal responsibility.

Mr. President, might I suggest that you begin nationalizing BP holdings in America? Or how about suspending their right to do business in America until they fess up and do right by throwing billions of dollars at the clean up right now - not later and only if their arms are twisted into submission? How about freezing their American accounts until further notice? BP is just playing games with you and the American public. They are not serious about truly fixing the problem.
