LSU Saw The Light To Keep Coach Les Miles. Political Pressure and Fan Pushback Brought It About

Les Miles Texas A&M v LSU
source: Getty Images

From Denny:  What a game tonight as Coach Les Miles led his much tighter team to a great win against Texas A & M.  This was a must win game for our coach to be considered to remain as head coach.  Just 20 seconds after the game AD Joe Alleva came out and announced that Les Miles will stay on as head coach.  It was Coach Miles' first hearing of the decision just moments after the game.

The past few weeks a group of boosters have tried to orchestrate his firing.  What a bunch of divas, thinking a bunch of angry rich old white guys could throw their weight around and force his firing without even consulting the fan base of thousands of fans across the nation who follow LSU football.  Coach Miles is the very picture of "grace under fire," something those boosters did not mirror.

The attitude of AD Joe Alleva and his booster posse have greatly angered the state of Louisiana and the city of Baton Rouge in particular.  Political pressure started coming to bear when the LSU fans loudly and bitterly complained about this nasty and unprofessionally handled situation.

LSU admin needs to think seriously about dumping AD Joe Alleva and those boosters.  This makes his second scandal after North Carolina that the public has soundly rejected.

Coach Les Miles was well celebrated by the fans in the stands both before the game with a standing ovation and after the game with chants of "We want Les!"  The Tigers carried Coach Miles on their shoulders to demonstrate their support of LSU's most loved coach.

Well done, Coach, you really were grace under pressure.  It was yet another teaching moment for a lot of people, not just your team.  Hint:  LSU admin, "can you hear me now?"  Coach, now go round up that number one recruiting class that LSU admin and their idiot boosters chased off.

Now LSU admin, don't make me turn my glaring focus upon you ever again.  I'm supposed to be focusing upon international and national issues not local sports.  But hey, when someone thinks they can just behave badly toward a righteous man who is stuffed full of integrity, then it's your turn to hear this woman roar and gather up social media and LSU fan support.  Well, now you know how the Pentagon, the NSA and Congress feel.  As it is the White House is breathing a sigh of relief it was you who got scorched this week.  GEAUX TIGERS!

Check out this article I wrote yesterday criticizing LSU admin.  It really was unbelievable how this all flared up and pissed off the fans:

Comfort Food From Louisiana: Recipe: John's Cajun Pot Roast

Pot Roast

Another version of Pot Roast Image by Offbeat Photography via Flickr

Thought my military friends might enjoy the WWII story that goes along with this recipe...

Comfort Food From Louisiana: Recipe: John's Cajun Pot Roast: From Denny: Here in Louisiana we aren't shy about dining on meat even in hot weather. Pot Roast is a perennial American favorite and Cajuns have their spin on it. My father-in-law, John, was Cajun and a wonderful cook. He didn't have a wide range but what he cooked was awesome and everyone licked the plate! :)

He had been an Army cook in WWII. Originally, he was an infantry soldier in General Patton's pack. The story goes that Patton's troops were forever outrunning their supply lines. What that means to those of you who have never been in combat is that they often were on rations or went hungry. Everyone knows an army runs on its stomach.

Well, John was not about to be denied a good meal. Like any good Cajun country boy he just went out and shot himself a big plump rabbit. He soon had it skinned, skewered and roasting over an open fire. The whole camp smelled it and came moseying over for a friendly meal. John looked at them and yelled, "Ya bunch of Momma's boys! Go get your own damn rabbit!"

Of course, John was an only child and yes, a Momma's boy but at least he knew how to hunt and was independent enough to take care of himself. He had a real disdain and fear for those spoiled soldiers whose mothers did too much for them. Why? Because he saw them get shot first, killed and in large numbers during the war. He was upset they refused to be teachable in order to save their lives. "War is not a country club!" he often used to say...

Russia and Iran Attacking U. S., 60 Years Later Russian Missiles Based In Cuba, Latin America

putin: the NEW hitler!
putin: the NEW hitler! (Photo credit: JeremiahChristopher)

From Denny:  Is it any wonder the world is mobilizing their collective military to take down Russia, and, now their partner in crime, Iran?

At first the West was content with just limited economic sanctions but Idiot Putin and Iran think they can double down on their retaliation and now attack America directly with their long range missiles they are positioning in Latin American bases.  They have been planning this multi-level attack for years.  I say just "Fuck 'em and feed 'em to the fish."  This never was about Crimea and Ukraine in the first place.

Insane Putin is back to settle the old score with America in a re-do 60 years later before most of us and him were even born.  What a moron.  He thinks this time Russia will not back down like Russian history erroneously believes Khruschev did with President Kennedy.  Actually, Khrushchev did not back down.  What Khruschev got was the U. S. missiles removed from Russia's back yard in Turkey as an exchange.  Khruschev and Kennedy came to an agreement.  Khruschev removed his missiles from the U. S.'s back yard in Cuba.  The U. S. removed their missiles from Russia's back yard in Turkey.  No one lost; they both won.

Guess all those American retirees in the area of the Nicaraguan base had better return to the U. S. because this is going to be a very messy war with a rapidly imploding Russia and Iran.  Canadian and European business investors had better get out of the area of the Cuban base immediately too...

Obama And DOJ Harassing 3 Million Voters - and Journalists - With New Tactic

Señalización de lugar de votación en Californi...

From Denny:  As an Independent and a liberal I rarely take the Louisiana newspapers seriously.  Most of their red state conclusions from the news are flawed thinking at best and so opinionated the facts get lost in the shuffle. Most, like my Baton Rouge paper, The Advocate, are too busy advancing the promotion of scare tactics from the Republican propaganda machine.

However, the facts remain to be seen clearly from the latest DOJ's suspect and downright sinister wrongdoing.  You know it's really bad when I finally write about it.  The DOJ is claiming their need for private information of almost 3 million Louisiana voters - and thousands of  journalists in that database - as necessary to protect the voting rights of the possibly disenfranchised, primarily African-Americans and Hispanics.  And what ever happened to my rights:  my civil rights, my constitutional right to vote unhindered, both as a journalist and as a liberal voter?

The rights of the many are getting trampled in the aggressive effort "claiming" to protect the rights of the few.  It is becoming more and more evident the DOJ actions are not truly about helping disenfranchised voters but something else...

What Is Prez Obama Getting Right Lately? Enjoying the IRS Non-Scandal?

People filing tax forms in 1920

From Denny:  While the Republicans work zealously to manufacture non-scandals to grab media attention just what is the President really doing to correct government problems and on-going issues?

IRS Non-Scandal

My fellow media got all in a lather about the IRS "Scandal" because they really had nothing better to fuss about to try and drive advertising revenue.  Come on; we all love to hate the tax man.  That much the media knew would strike a chord with this story.  Even the Bible documents an historical hatred of government taxation.  None of us enjoy it.

Why Wont Pentagon Pay For PTSD Service Dogs For Returning Soldiers?

bravo- service dog
bravo- service dog (Photo credit: greenkozi)

From Denny:  As usual insensitive politics get in the way of doing what is right.  In this case, the budget hawks from the Tea Party and the Republicans make it abundantly clear they don't give a damn about the returning soldiers from the Afghan War.

It's fine for America to send people to war for 10 years running - the Pentagon's new philosophy of Perpetual War - but "fuhgetaboutit" when it comes time to address their many war wounds, the most pronounced of which is the resulting PTSD issue.

Time to rat out the annoying fools over at the Pentagon and the Department of Veterans Affairs yet again.  (Separate these from the folks who are trying to work from within to do something about this travesty.) This is really reprehensible the level of official callousness and depraved indifference about refusing to address in a timely fashion - or at all - the mental health issue of PTSD.  Nor does the public want to hear "Oh, we don't have it in the budget."  Yes, you do.

WTF? DOJ Attorney Threatens Reporter At Public Hearing?

Dismissed U.S. attorneys summary
What kind of justice do they dispense here?

From Denny:  Turns out that President Obama's "transparency in government" does not seem to apply to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and at a public hearing.  Talk about obnoxious and a denial of the freedom of the press.  A newspaper reporter from The Daily Iberian was actually denied his civil rights - and publicly by a DOJ attorney at a public meeting.

This is downright bizarre.  Since when does the DOJ have the right to deny a reporter to record, take notes or quote one of their attorneys who is making public comments at a public hearing?  That is exactly what happened.  Who died and made the DOJ God?  The arrogant attorney's name is Rachel Hranitzky and this happened in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Jon Stewart Mocks Outrageous Arizona School Board Fearing Mexican-American Studies

Jon Stewart
Jon Stewart (Image via RottenTomatoes.com)
From Denny:  The Daily Show may be a comedy show but Jon Stewart utilizes what is happening right here in America as material.  You can't make up this stuff.  It's unbelievable.  How do these incredibly insensitive - and more importantly, really stupid - people rise to such high positions of authority where they affect the lives of millions of people?  It's scary in its implications.

It's difficult to believe this superintendent actually has a doctorate in education.  Are you sure this guy didn't lie on his resume or buy his degree from some online scam site?  It's like listening to my Republican Louisiana Senator David Vitter who claims to be a Rhodes scholar and a lawyer who graduated Ivy League schools.  He can barely put a sentence together and lacks rational thinking just like this fool.

Caustic Christians Promoting Hate Endorsed By GOP Candidates

Jesus Christ - detail from Deesis mosaic, Hagi...
Jesus Christ - detail from Deesis mosaic, Hagia Sophia, Istanbul (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
From Denny:  A Louisiana pastor, affiliated with the Rush Limbaugh Hate Merchant class, introduced Rick Santorum at his church when the Republican campaigned here in my town of Baton Rouge.

Of course, my fellow Democrats across the nation erupted in outrage.  I yawned at the fist-pounding rhetoric reminiscent of Nikita Khrushchev pounding his shoe against President Kennedy in the 1960's.  Apparently, shoe slapping is a popular anger release in many cultures.

Southern Baptist Pastor Dennis Terry said when he introduced Sen. Santorum:  "I don't care what the liberals say, I don't care what the naysayers say, this nation was founded as a Christian nation...There is only one God and his name is Jesus. I'm tired of people telling me that I can't say those words.. Listen to me, If you don't love America, If you don't like the way we do things I have one thing to say - GET OUT. We don't worship Buddha, we don't worship Mohammad, we don't worship Allah, we worship God, we worship God's son Jesus Christ."

Caustic Christians are so far removed from what Jesus Christ taught that I'm immune to their constant propaganda because it sounds like the ravings of a mad man.  Think current mad man like former Fox News conservative talk show host, Glenn Beck, who is clearly in need of medication to restore him to a sound mind.

Groundhog Day Louisiana Style: New Orleans T-Boy, Baton Rouge Boudreaux

Photograph of Swamp House at the Audubon Zoo L...
The Swamp House at New Orleans Audubon Zoo that houses T-Boy Nutria, the Groundhog Day prognosticator - Image via Wikipedia
From Denny:  Groundhog Day contenders are popping up all over America.  Groundhogs are not native to Louisiana (because it's too hot) but we didn't allow a little factoid like that to stop us.  Louisiana likes its holidays so what effort was it to rustle up another creative idea than to draft the swamp rat nutria into the Groundhog Day?

Up in the northern part of America it's considered really bad news when a groundhog sees its shadow, foretelling another miserable six weeks of winter.  But here in Louisiana it means a spring that is shorter than usual.

A short spring means summer's grueling heat and drippy humidity will return sooner than desired.  So, you see, burrow-loving animals can come in handy to predict the weather both in the chilly North and the hottie Deep South.

Louisiana's answer to Groundhog Day

Louisiana sports two famous nutria - and a crawfish - for the Groundhog Day predictions:  Pierre C. Shadeaux hails from New Iberia and T-Boy Nutria enjoys his crib at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans.  Personally, I think they should rename the New Orleans guy "New Orleans Louie" - but no one stopped long enough to ask my opinion.  It just goes to show you can be number one in Louisiana on Twitter (warriorlight) for the most tweets but you still can't get no respect from your local peeps. :)

Pierre C. Shadeaux of New Iberia (about 2 hours outside of New Orleans, near Texas)

This is Pierre C. Shadeaux and this year he predicted a longer spring and milder summer for 2012.

No 'Shadeaux' good news for South Louisiana

From Will Chapman, creator of the Cajun Groundhog Day celebration in New Iberia and publisher of the Daily Iberian newspaper:  "As Southerners, we don't want some Yankee groundhog predicting our weather, so we turned to a nutria, the closest thing we could find to a groundhog.

"If Pierre sees his shadow, it's bad news for locals as it means a short spring and that summer's heat and humidity will be here early. No shadow for Pierre, and its good news - a longer spring, milder temperatures - a postponement of summer's heat and humidity."

Chapman explains about Pierre, "Pierre lives in the swamps. Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries agents are nice enough to bring Pierre to town. He stays at a local veterinarian's office for a few days, where he gets spa-like treatment as he's pampered, cleaned up, fed and hopefully gotten into a good temperament and a good frame of mind for making his prediction. And then they bring him over that morning and put him in the cottage."

Pierre enjoys some decadent Louisiana architecture, a custom-built Acadian home in the style of a traditional Cajun cottage.  As many as 100 people show up to view his weather prediction.  Word of mouth and the ensuing tourism should increase the crowds in the coming years.

T-Boy Nutria of New Orleans

This is T-Boy Nutria (short for Little Boy in Cajun French) at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans and the Cajun version of a groundhog predicted the same as Pierre C. Shadeaux - a longer spring and milder summer for 2012.  These cute little swamp rats grow to twice the size of groundhog Punxsutawney Phil, weighing in at 30 pounds.  Yeah, we grow 'em big down South.

ocnutria01096.jpg

The staff at the Audubon Zoo like to create a very special Lady Gaga kind of showy entrance for T-Boy to start off the festivities.  This year he popped out of a wedding cake float to discover his "bride" Kim Kardashian.

nutria-groundhog.jpg

T-Boy made some other spectacular entrances in previous years in his Louisiana Swamp Exhibit at the zoo.  After Hurricane Katrina he emerged - not from a burrow - but from a miniature FEMA trailer.

Last year was quite the show too.  He rode a Mardi Gras carnival float past an accusatory traffic camera.  His license plate boasted of the New Orleans Saints' world champion football title.  What a show off.

What is a nutria you ask?

For the uninitiated, nutria were first brought to Louisiana from South America when some Cajun fools thought they would get rich off their fur coats.  Of course, as they are nothing but big rodents, when let loose they multiplied like crazy in the marshes, the bayous, the canals and the swamps - all because they had no natural predator.  The nutria set about devastating the wetlands and became a general pest.

Louisiana chefs wasted no time figuring out how to cook up the rodent infestation/harvest and market it in the local grocery stores.  Yes, nutria tastes a lot like chicken.  Nutria are mighty cute as babies, sweet looking and fuzzy.  They grow up a bit ugly, sporting long, fierce orange teeth.

As one of the zoo keepers talks about the choice of a nutria over a groundhog, Rick Atkinson, curator of the Louisiana Swamp Exhibit says, "One of the reasons I really like nutria is that when they make their appearance, the first thing they’re going to do is reach for the piece of corn or carrot I’ve provided and begin to eat - and an eating animal is not a traumatized animal. They don’t easily get rattled, and it’s all about the stomach.  They are more outgoing than a groundhog, especially when it comes to food."

Groundhog Day
Claude the Cajun Crawfish

Who is another groundhog contender for the holiday in Louisiana?  There's Claude the Cajun Crawfish from the northern part of the state, Shreveport.  The tradition is that if he waves his claws toward the sun then he is signaling the cold spell will come to an end and that it's time to rock on and enjoy Mardi Gras season.

Claude also says he is better at predicting than groundhogs.  Why?  He says it's because he has no fur standing between him and the weather.  He is also annoyed that people like to eat crawfish and even more miffed that no one has ever taken a bite out of Punxsutawney Phil.  No photos of Claude as he is a bit camera shy.

Baton Rouge Boudreaux

Baton Rouge is the capital city of Louisiana and we have no Groundhog Day contender yet recognized but a fan base is growing via Twitter - or so we keep telling ourselves. Her name is Baton Rouge Betty Boudreaux and she's a real groundhog.  She likes some things to remain traditional - but not all - don't you know.  There are enough men in the game; why not a diva female to rock the boat?

Betty Boudreaux likes to sport a hot pink bikini, drink Abita Voodoo beer, dine on King Cake all year round while she drapes herself in mountains of Mardi Gras beads.  Her trendy ensemble is topped off with a casually tossed purple feather boa.

To her every day is a party.  She's been spotted on the red carpet in large floppy hats with long-stemmed fleur di lis waving at the crowd.

Her BFF is Pierre the Pelican, famous for his movie director styled Martin Scorcese eye wear and jamming swamp parties. Trailing close behind is Betty's faithful bodyguard, Gautreaux the Gator.  He's a famous bar bouncer from the French Quarter that migrated up from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.  He fell in love with Betty and Baton Rouge, never to return to his former home, Sin City.  Gautreaux says he has no regrets.

Remember to vote for Baton Rouge Betty Boudreaux next Groundhog Day.  Her political platform is a Mardi Gras float in every driveway, a King Cake in every kitchen and a free crawfish boil in every neighborhood.

My virtual world is a rich place teeming with interesting characters, sort of like the real world Louisiana, don't you think?  You should never pull a news journalist off the oh, so predictable news and let them loose in the creative world.  It can get downright scary in there - or make you laugh.

BP Oil Spill Disaster: One Year Later Economy Slammed, Recovered At 30 Percent

Photo: Golden Meadow, Louisiana, 13 April 2011, photo by Dave Martin

From Denny: Thousands of marine animals have died, about 7,000. There are probably three times that but because of BP preventing any news crews out in the disaster area in the early weeks of the oil spill. It could not be properly documented.

Photo: Dead dolphin found at Fourchon Beach, Port Fourchon, Louisiana, 13 April 2011

What is most worrisome are all the millions of gallons of cancer-causing dispersant used in the Gulf against the will of the Louisiana and Gulf residents. That's what is killing the baby dolphins and other marine animals now one year later.

The oyster beds will take over 10 years to reestablish, if they are lucky. Louisiana oysters used to be the finest in the nation until now, thanks to the incompetence and depraved indifference of British Petroleum. The British came and the British left us in tatters, stepping on our faces as they walked away from the problem.

Photo: Tar balls on beach at Port Fourchon, Louisiana - 13 April 2011

They dared to use cancer-causing dispersant on America's oceans.  That same dispersant had been banned in their own UK - for 10 years.  Guess they had a stockpile of it and wanted to dump it somewhere.  America became their target.

Currently, BP pays the fawning scumbag attorney, Ken Feinberg, an astounding $1 million a month to administer the so-called BP Claims Fund. Feinberg is out doing the usual political damage control by going on all the media outlets for lying interviews.  He justifies his pay from BP by claiming a Bush official signed off on it as a fair price.

Photo: Oil covered bird rescued at Barataria Bay, Louisiana - 26 June 2010

Just how much are we going to allow this guy to insult our intelligence?  Why does Obama keep him?  He should be fired and fast, especially in this election year.  Obama has a golden opportunity to fix the aftermath of the BP disaster and come out looking like a hero.  Why doesn't he do it?

What a sick joke the BP Claims Fund is. They demand you sign your life away and your rights to sue them in exchange for a mere $5,000 final settlement payment. No business can run on $5,000 a month. These token payments have sent thousands of businesses into bankruptcy and as many homes into foreclosure. In this instance, those added tragedies could have been avoided if BP had chosen the honorable path.

How long will it take for the Gulf to recover? When will people finally get compensated and made whole as promised? As of now businesses have been compensated only up to 30 percent of their losses.  The misery drags on in this region with billions lost in tourism business.  Come on; who among us wants to pay good money to visit an oil slicked beach and swim in polluted water?

If you missed these great stories from NBC News Anchor Brian Williams, take a look.  A big THANK YOU to NBC and Brian Williams for keeping this BP Oil Spill Disaster story front and center in the mind of the American people until it gets resolved properly.  If we allow Big Business to do this on the Gulf Coast, how long will it be before it comes to your community?

Dean Blanchard, a fifth generation shrimper in Louisiana, has lost 70 percent of his business and it's still down a year later.

Where is the oil in the Gulf? What is the impact one year later? It can still be found - easily. Just dig a few inches into the muck, look at the estuaries where there are rings of dead zones. Go out into the Gulf and stick your hand into the water and it comes up oil covered.

This is what our water birds are supposed to look like:

Photo: Louisiana state bird, Brown Pelicans, 13 April 2011

Not like this brown pelican just days after the BP Oil Spill Disaster. Fight the greed of Big Business and demand President Obama refuse to allow BP any oil leases on American soil or in our oceans:

Do You Know Your Governors Donor List?

Bobby JindalImage by DonkeyHotey via Flickr

From Denny: Check it out and then you know who to blame - personally. :) These are the Republican donors to Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal who paid more than $5,000 to his reelection campaign between 1 Jan 2010 and 31 Dec 2010.

If you don't know who Gov. Jindal is, he's the guy labeled as the weird "Mr. Rogers" who failed in a Republican Response attempt to one of President Obama's speeches. He has been traveling all over America before that bomb of an appearance and since, chasing campaign monies to run for the 2012 presidential campaign. Even the Republican voters here in Louisiana are unhappy with him. Why don't they recall him? It's about time the voters across the nation get serious and recall and replace corrupt greedy politicians with people who will do the job for which they were elected - not run for the next campaign to improve their resume.

I have a great idea. How about we publicize ALL the donors that contribute to lobbyist government across America?

I have a better idea. How about we publish the names, home and business addresses of all the Washington lobbyists? That could take a while as there are at least 300 lobbyists to each federal politician. That does not begin to address all the state, county and city lobbyists.

If you are a blogger then I challenge you to put up your governor's donor list and that belonging to other representatives. It's time these people quit enjoying the quiet cover of anonymity.

Note: "Donors are listed by cities in alphabetical order according to the city - not the donor's last name." What can I say? Only in Louisiana do you find a file like this. And check out how many are from out of state. You can see who is benefiting from state no-bid contracts whether in construction, roads, oil, health or insurance industries and attorney lobbyists.
